Hanna Maria MacNaughtan
“Art to me is dynamic ~ constantly evolving with life’s experiences” Hanna Maria MacNaughtan has an urgent need to paint! A self-taught artist, Hanna began her creative journey in the fall of 2001. Her love for people and nature is evident in her art. A drive for portraiture painting was her initial fervor. Hanna quickly learned how to bring out her subjects emotions and personalities in her paintings. She has commissioned dozens of portraits in the few years that she has been painting and it continues to be a passion for her. Recently her work has evolved beyond realistic portraiture to a discovery into veiled emotions. Transition of Life series is an ever growing group of paintings with a focus on the ‘crossing over of this life into the next’. As a Registered Nurse working for the past 10 years with oncology patients Hanna always wonders what patients are feeling and seeing at the moment of transition from this life into the next. A strong belief in another spiritual entity beyond that of flesh and blood is the driving force behind these creations. What this next existence holds for us is life’s greatest mystery. Transition of Life paintings take the viewer on a journey of hope, peace and everlasting freedom. Each piece holds its own unique personality almost taking on a life of its own. They are done in acrylic with textured effects. They are finished with a high gloss which enhances the luminosity as well as creates an ever subtle variation in the image as lighting changes throughout the day. Hanna is an active member of several art groups in the Ottawa area: Merrickville Artists Guild, Manotick Art Association, Nepean Fine Arts League, and Ottawa Watercolour Society. The artist’s home gallery is located in Kemptville, Ontario where she lives with her husband and three children. For more information please visit www.HannaMacNaughtan.ca
