My motivation for the forms I create is to bring a sense of calm and reflection. I take inspiration from years of watching and listening to Ocean tides rolling over the shoreline, breaking off into different patterns and creating a harmonious push / pull scenario. The time and effort it takes to create a piece teaches me patience and gives me the drive to continue. Knowing that a piece worth creating is something that comes down from the mind to the inner soul. Clean, clear reflection. I like to think that using a semi Porcelain clay body, while being strong also has a reflective side. When carving, I need to be in that space the clay is, fluid with motion and having no agenda. I get this from being near Ocean currents and watching how the tides and sun change not only the reflection of the water but the motion of the waves. Debris on the shoreline also has an impact on motion with lines breaking unevenly again with no agenda. I need my pieces to be simple to look at and at the same time ask to be touched. I hope people can find their own space and reflection in what I create.
