Gary Briggs
Gary Briggs casts bronze, carves stone, sculpts in concrete and acrylic, and hammers metal to produce awards, garden sculptures, fountains and architectural features. His collaborative approach with clients develops unique projects that explore creativity and express beauty. Gary has been creating and selling art for the past 20 years. He also organizes and hosts sculpture workshops and teaches wood carving courses. In addition to producing art for sale, he participates in the ‘fun’ aspects of public art and has built and displayed flocks of flying pigs (all of which went missing from an aerial installation but kept turning up in schools, coffee shops and homes in the Red Deer area), an historically accurate replica of a 4th millennium BC royal Egyptian barge (43 feet long with a crew of 13, including pharaoh and attendants), a 30 foot replica of the star ship Enterprise, and a 36 foot replica of a 12th century Viking dragon boat. Gary moved to the Ottawa area nine years ago, and has completed construction on his own studio and casting foundry. His recent work includes a series of 10 petroglyphs - animal, human and spirit figures ‘pecked’ onto stone surfaces as an exploration of the art of primitive cultures, salon art expressing the joy of motion, garden art to add that random element to outdoor spaces that makes life more interesting.
